FOL Core Values

We all are guided and motivated by what we value. Our decisions and our priorities on how we spend our time and energy and money all reflect what we value. We believe that we should value what God values. Therefore, His inspired, inerrant Word is the authority in determining our values, and guides us as we live them out in ministry.

DISCIPLESHIP
(as the goal for everyone connected to our ministries)

Supporting Scripture:
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20a)

Rationale:
We are in the business of developing dynamic disciples—throughout all ages and stages of life--who continue to grow in devotion to Christ through the study of His Word, through communion with Him in worship and prayer, through faithful stewardship of His gifts, and through commitment to His work.

REFLECTING CHRIST
(within our ministries and our communities)

Supporting Scripture:
"You are the salt of the earth . . . You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13a, 14-16)

Rationale:
We seek to impact those who are a part of our ministries, and those who are in our communities, for Christ. We do that as we follow His example of obedience, love, forgiveness, compassion, and mercy, reflecting His image through lives of integrity, humble service, witnessing, and community outreach and involvement.

THE HOME
(as the primary place for spiritual nurture)

Supporting Scripture:
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15b)

Rationale:
We see the home as the most significant place for the development and expression of faith to take place between generations, and we in ministry are at our best when we are supporting and equipping the home to that end.

EXCELLENCE
(as the standard of all we do as we give God our best)

Supporting Scripture:
“If anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things . . . put it into practice.” (Philippians 4:8, 9b)

Rationale:
Even our best is not good enough for the Lord, but the best is what we will offer, as we strive to excel in using all the resources that God has given us for His glory and for the building up of His kingdom.

TEAMWORK
(as we live out what it means to be the body of Christ)

Supporting Scripture:
“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)

Rationale:
Through baptism, we become an important part of the body of Christ, and are each encouraged to discover, develop and deploy our God-given gifts, both inside and outside of the community of faith, as we work together with the rest of the body of Christ.

WORSHIP
(as our primary activity and expression of faith and love for God)

Supporting Scripture:
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.” (Romans 12:1)

Rationale:
Through worship, God gives us His best, and we daily respond by giving Him our best. As we live in His mercy, we offer ourselves in worship to Him corporately, privately, and continually.

DIVERSITY
(as we complete and complement one another in ministry)

Supporting Scripture:
"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-5)

Rationale:
We believe our strength lies in our diversity as God combines our unique generations, spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, personalities, and experiences in a variety of ministries and worship experiences.
