REFORMATION LECTURES

In 1517, Martin Luther posted 95 theses to encourage debate about the practice and
theology of indulgences practiced by the Roman Catholic Church. His intention was not
to spark a revolution, but simply to engage in debate over the issue. From the moment
the hammer struck the door it set into motion events which still rock our world. Today
we celebrate that event and the outcome of the debate; so perfectly defined by Luther’s
creedal statement: we ar e justified by Chr ist, by Gr ace, Faith and Scr iptur e alone.
Questions and issues have been raised ever since the posting of the 95 theses. How
should “we” in the 21st century react to a theological statement made in the 16th century?
How do events of the Reformation affect us today? How should we implement the
reforms of the 16th century church into the worldwide mission of the church of today and
how do the influences of the Reformation shape our perception of the world today?
Join us at Fountain of Life on Fr iday, October 28 and Satur day, October 29 as we
examine, explore and evaluate the influence of the Reformation and ponder:
“Refor mation – Refor ’mission’: a Missional Appr oach to the Refor mation”.
The Reformation Lectures kick-off will be on Fr iday, October 28 @ 6:30 PM with a
catered dinner featuring Dr. Yohannes A. Mengsteab, Director of Ministry Programs
for The Lutheran Foundation as keynote speaker. Dr. Mengsteab also served as national
director of the New Mission Fields Development for the Lutheran Church Missouri
Synod World Mission.
Tickets are required for the event. The $15 ticket price includes a catered dinner.
Tickets are available from Fountain of Life Lutheran Church. Contact Dr. Jeffry A.

continue and will include presentations by Dr. Yohannes A. Mengsteab, Dr. Robert J.
Scudieri, author of “The Apostolic Church:
One, Holy, Catholic and Missionary” (published by the Lutheran Society for Missiology),
Ian Pacey, LC-MS Campus Pastor at the University of Arizona and David Drum,
Director of Church Development 4Tucson, an organization that facilitates like minded
people in cities to provide financial, educational, strategic, spiritual and relational support
to aid in the transformation of the soul, family and community through the Gospel of
Jesus Christ.
The “Lectures” will culminate in a “round table” discussion followed by lunch.
It is hoped that through continued study of the Reformation and its influence we may
implement God’s Spirit of reforming and missional work and help us to proclaim the free
gift of salvation to all who believe and confess Jesus as Lord of their lives.
Soli Deo Glor ia!
